At Caretech, we believe every veteran deserves dignity, respect, and access to the care they need—especially at home. For many veterans, navigating the VA system to receive in-home care benefits can feel overwhelming. Whether you’re seeking non-medical home care, respite services, or financial assistance for caregiving, understanding the process is the first step to getting the support you deserve.
Here’s a simplified guide to help veterans and their families access care through the VA—and how Caretech can help every step of the way.
1. Determine Your Eligibility for Veterans Health Care
Before any home care services can be approved, the first step is ensuring you’re enrolled in the VA health care system. If you are not currently enrolled, you can apply online at va.gov or by submitting VA Form 10-10EZ.
Need help? Call the Lincoln VA Regional Benefit Office at 800-827-1000 for assistance with the application process.
2. Consult with Your VA Health Care Team
Once enrolled, speak with your primary care provider, case manager, or social worker within the VA system. They will assess your health and personal care needs to determine if you’re eligible for services such as:
- Homemaker/Home Health Aide (HHA) services
- Respite Care for family caregivers
These services are designed to support daily living activities and help veterans remain safely at home.
3. Get a Referral to a Community Care Provider
If your care team determines you’re eligible, they will issue a referral to a community care provider. The VA partners with in-network agencies like Caretech to deliver these services locally.
We proudly hold the state contract with the VA and support veterans through both the Community Care program (local funding) and the Aid & Attendance (A&A) benefit (federal funding).
FAQ: Does Caretech work with Veterans Benefits?
Yes. Caretech supports veterans through both federal and state funding programs and can help clients navigate eligibility and paperwork.
Note: The referral process may take up to 14 days, so plan accordingly and keep in touch with your VA Care Coordinator.
4. Schedule and Confirm Your Appointment
After receiving your authorization letter, you can contact the approved provider—such as Caretech—to schedule your first appointment. Make sure to inform your VA care team within 14 days of booking.
The authorization letter will include:
- The types of approved services
- Duration of the care
- Instructions for reporting updates
FAQ: Does Caretech offer a free in-home assessment/consultation?
Yes, we do! Caretech provides a no-cost in-home consultation to assess your needs and build a personalized care plan.
5. Explore Financial Support Options for Veterans Like Aid and Attendance
In addition to VA-provided services, eligible veterans may also qualify for financial support through the VA Aid and Attendance Pension Benefit. This monthly stipend helps cover the cost of home care when extra support is needed due to health challenges.
To apply, complete VA Form 21-2680 and submit it to your Pension Management Center. If you need help completing the application, Caretech and your local VA office are here to assist.
FAQ: What is the average hourly rate for private pay home care services?
Our rates range from $34–$40/hour, depending on the time of day and level of care.
