Expanding Care in Western Nebraska: Meet Kate Schmer, Caretech’s New Community Liaison and Resource Coordinator

Caretech is thrilled to expand its presence in Western Nebraska by welcoming Kate Schmer as our new Community Liaison and Resource Coordinator.

Kate brings a wealth of experience and a deep-rooted commitment to her community that perfectly aligns with Caretech’s mission to provide compassionate, high-quality care to underserved populations. For Kate, this role represents more than just a job – it’s an opportunity to make a lasting impact. “I am looking forward to developing this role into something that truly serves our entire community,” Kate shared. Her passion for building connections and bringing essential resources to people in need is clear in every aspect of her approach to the role. Kate has long been involved in her community through volunteer work with organizations like 4H, FFA, and children’s ministries at Grace Chapel, where she’s known as someone who’s always willing to lend a hand. Now, she’s ready to apply her expertise to the field of senior care.

As Community Liaison and Resource Coordinator, Kate will serve counties across the Nebraska Panhandle, including Sioux, Dawes, Sheridan, Box Butte, Scottsbluff, Morrill, Garden, Banner, Kimball, Cheyenne, and Deuel. In her new role, she will connect seniors and their families to essential care options and resources to help them live safely and independently in their homes. Beyond providing support to clients, Kate hopes to spread awareness about the variety of programs available, including services for veterans and those offered through the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Medicaid Waiver program.

One of the unique challenges rural communities face is limited access to resources, something Kate is passionate about addressing. “Proximity to care is a major concern in rural communities,” Kate said. “Even making people aware that in-home care is an option is vital. There are so many educational opportunities ahead, and I look forward to addressing these questions.”

This isn’t the first time Kate has taken on a service-oriented role in her community. For over a decade, she and her family have been involved in supporting local youth programs through 4H and FFA, and since 2013, they’ve chaired the Scotts Bluff County Junior Livestock Sale Committee. Through her extensive network and experience, she hopes to not only serve Caretech clients but to introduce new resources and support systems to the community.

Kate’s agricultural background has given her a strong sense of responsibility to others, which she carries into her work. “Agriculture is fundamentally an industry of service, and farmers and ranchers are some of the most generous people I know. The ag way of life has instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility to care for others,” she explained.

In the coming year, Kate’s goals include establishing Caretech’s reputation as a trusted partner in the region and supporting as many families as possible. She’s committed to building a positive impact by helping people navigate the available services and ensuring families feel confident in their care choices.

For Kate, Western Nebraska is home. She and her husband Dustin have lived in the Panhandle for 17 years, raising their three sons, all of whom are involved in local schools and active in sports and 4H. This deep connection to her community fuels her drive to serve and makes her a natural fit for the role. “All three of our kids were born here, and our family is deeply rooted in the community. I am a big believer in giving back, and Caretech’s commitment to service and community partnerships aligns with my values,” Kate said.

As she steps into her role, Kate is excited to be part of the Caretech family and looks forward to making a difference in Western Nebraska. Whether it’s through connecting clients with essential services, speaking to community groups, or helping veterans access the care they deserve, Kate is ready to serve.

Stay tuned as Kate continues her journey with Caretech, bringing her expertise, empathy, and commitment to the seniors and families of Western Nebraska.
